What is the best wrinkle relaxing injection to use?

What is the best Botulinum toxin brand to use for wrinkle relaxer injections.

This is a common question our clients ask. The first thing to say is the name “Botox” itself is a brand of Botulinum toxin made by a company called Allergan.

There are other brands of botulinum toxin licensed for use in facial aesthetics: –

1. Botox® (licenced as Vistabel® in the UK for aesthetic medicine since 2006)
2. Dysport® (licensed as Azzalure® in the UK for aesthetic medicine since 2009)
3. Xeomin® (licensed as Bocouture® in the UK for aesthetic medicine since 2010)

Other Botulinum ton preparations are available for other indications however only those listed above are presently licensed for use in the UK for aesthetic indications.

All work by temporarily relaxing muscles due to the action of Botulinum type – A neurotoxin complex blocking the receptor which tells the muscle to contract. After a while these receptors re-generate and muscle action is restored. The different brands exert the same effect but require slightly different doses.

At SimplySkin Aesthetic Clinic, Earls Court, London use routinely use BOTOX® or Bocouture® brands depending on indication.

Bocouture® a is product which contains only a pure Clostridium Botulinum type – A neurotoxin complex, having been purified of all other complexing proteins. This purity makes the Bocouture® product unique in contrast to the other commercially available preparations.

Studies show that Bocouture® has the lowest content of complexing protein of all of the available botulinum toxins, this could be why repeated application of Bocouture®, even in high doses, does not seem to induce the formation of neutralising anti-bodies. This unique property of Bocouture® means resistance to repeat injections is less likely to form.
